Week 13 *

Allowing students to be spontaneous and creative learners is important, but expectations need to be set and taught to ensure the classroom and individuals are respected. Children thrive in atmospheres that provide structure, consistency and knowing what to expect. As far as allowing students to make mistakes, be aware of this strategy because some students struggle with making mistakes. Making mistakes may result in disengagement or inappropriate behaviors which could escalate negativity in the classroom. Incorporating activities children understand and succeed at will build their confidence which can be integrated into struggling topics or assignments. In the Montessori theory, educators need to take the role as a facilitator and allow students to learn through risks, making mistakes, and following their interests.
